Hola! Here's an update on what's going on en la clase de Español!
All classes: We continue practicing dias de la semana (days of the week) and el tiempo (the weather) with our calendar time. Students are able to describe the weather in Spanish, which is exciting to do! We use this video to help us remember the weather phrases. We are also working on counting past veinte (20). We will be memorizing the increments of 10 to make counting to 50 or 100 easier in Spanish. This video is a great resource when learning how to count in Spanish. 3rd grade: We have begun a new unit on el alfabeto (the alphabet). The Spanish alphabet has 4 different letters than the English alphabet- ch, ll, ñ, and rr. Ask your child about these new letters and their names. Use this song to help your child learn the Spanish alphabet just like the did for the English alphabet! 3rd grade vocabulario: La letras del alfabeto = letters of the alphabet. Students should be familiar with their names Los numeros 0-20 = numbers 0-20. Students should know the number and how to pronounce it. 4th and 5th grade: A lot of what we are focusing on right now is to help with conversations. I want the students to be able to have a conversation with a native Spanish speaker and feel confident in what they are saying. We are learning how to express ourselves with vocabulary that deals with feelings, like happy, sad, angry, tired, etc. We use this video as a resource to practice the vocabulary. Now, we can answer the question ¿Como estas? with more than just bien or mal or mas o menos. We can say estoy cansado/a o estoy feliz. Your child should know what those phrases mean! :) Also, we are learning vocabulary related to manners/etiquette. Por favor, gracias, and de nada are a few examples of having manners and showing respect in Spanish. 4th/5th vocabulario: por favor = please gracias = thank you de nada = you are welcome salud = bless you con permiso = excuse me lo siento = I'm sorry mucho gusto = nice to meet you perdon = excuse me/pardon? cansado/a = tired asustado/a = scared enojado/a = angry frustrado/a = frustrated sorprendido/a = surprised feliz = happy triste = sad
